Fun Friday!

Woah, this week flew by pretty quickly! I guess it is because we had President’s Day off. Actually, only some people had it off. Maybe because it is February, the month is shorter, and moving faster than normal.

Anyway. Happy Friday, my friends! You made it to the weekend and so here is a fun YouTube cover to celebrate! Press play and you will be wow-ed easily in 5 seconds!

Excuse the lyrics but was not her voice powerful or what? Mackenzie Johnson is a YouTube artist who has more than 160,00 subscribers. She does a lot of covers but also has created her own music. You can listen to more of her music through SoundCloud.

I have no idea how I found her but I am sure glad I did! I hope you enjoyed it! Have a fun Friday!

Taylor Swift’s Blank Space & Style Cover

I’ve been addicted to this one song since Taylor Swift tweeted about it. YouTube artists, Louisa Wendorff and Devin Dawson, did a cover mash-up of Taylor Swift’s Blank Space and Style from her latest album, 1989. Watch, listen, and be amazed by this:

Was that beautiful or what? Visually, the simplicity of this music video made it so easy to emotionally connect with the music. Of course, the music itself was flawless especially the harmony and softness of their voices. I loved how these two pop songs turned indie and folk. I’ve literally been listening to this song on repeat for the past few days. I’m not sick of it and probably won’t be for awhile because I love listening to it that much!

Fun Friday!

Happy Friday! Yes, you and I made it through the week! Going back to work after New Year’s Day was tough! But I’m glad it’s Friday! For the joy of it being Friday today, I’d like to share a song that I have been listening to on repeat literally all day! YouTube artists, Drew Tabor and Katie Stump, sing a cover to Counting Stars by One Republic.

I love the acoustic, the harmonies, and simply their voices! Hope you enjoy it!

OC Music Awards

The last time I went to OC Music Awards was probably a few years back when I was in college. Bands were performing at The Camp or The Lab. One of the two hipster places. It was crowded with a bunch of well dressed hipsters there. It was fun hanging out with some friends while listening to some good indie music for free!

OCMA (Orange County Music Awards) is basically an organization that holds a competition to find the best indie band in Orange County. The winner gets to perform at People’s Choice Awards and get a lot of promotion for their band. Anyone can vote online for which ever band they would like to win. To find out which and where the bands perform, you just need to go to OCMusicAwards.com. Every Tuesday night, the location changes where the bands are performing.

So on Tuesday night, OCMA was at The District in Tustin. My friend, Esther, and I saw about 3 or 4 bands perform several songs. Even though I didn’t know any of the bands, they were all talented and entertaining to watch. The first singer to perform was Annie McQueen who had a quite interesting headband/hat/head top thing on.

My favorite singer of that night was probably Becky Holt who looked like Ren Steven from Even Steven but almost looked like Zooey Deschanel because of the way she dressed and her bangs. Her style is a mixture of Ingrid Michaelson and Feist. Here’s a cute song of hers:

Towards the end of the night, the crowd grew as Alice Wallace performed with her band.

If you’re interested in watching some indie bands perform, check out OCMusicAwards.com. The next show is in Fullerton at the Slidebar. It’ll be outside of course, so dress warm. Beware, it may be crowded there!

Christmas Lights #3

I wanted to find more crazy Christmas lights so I had to do what I had to do. Google. I just did some Googling and found the house. I have to say that Christmas Lights #3 is definitely the winner out of the three.

The house plays mainstream music and of course some classic holiday ones too. The lights are just ridiculously ridiculous. You’re basically watching a concert in front of this house.

The owners of the house has volunteers who give out hot apple cider and some mini donut looking but funnel cake tasting pastries. They have some chairs for people sit and a little bonfire pit to keep people warm.

Below is a picture of how crazy the lights go. They had holiday patterned lights (top left), phrases like Merry Christmas (top right), Carly Rae Jepsen singing Call Me Maybe (bottom left), and Snoopy (bottom right).

Not only were people allowed to hang outside and watch the lights but also go inside the house! The house inside is almost like Christmas Lights #2 in Tustin with all the little figurine displays. The house was basically a winter wonderland. They had various themes going on throughout the whole house.

After watching the light show and doing a tour of the house inside, Dasom and I walked back to the car. As we were walking, we saw this house! The house looked like it was in a movie! It was fun driving around the neighborhood because the houses were huge and beautiful!

If you want to see this house, it’s in south Orange County. The address is: 25473 Nellie Gail Road in Laguna Hills. It’s really close to the Oso exit on the 5 freeway. Just a heads up, don’t drive into the street where the house is located. Park before or after the street the house is located. Driving on that street will not be fun since it’ll be crowded with people watching the lights.

Asian Bowl Cuts

I discovered a hilarious blog called Asian Bowl Cuts. The name of the blog speaks for itself. My favorite post is about Jack from Jack In The Box. The blogger questions whether or not Jack is Asian because of his bowl hair cut. Indeed, that is a tough question to answer.
